The problem

The problem

Independent therapists struggle

to stay organized.

Independent therapists struggle to stay organized.

Independent therapists (e.g., physical therapists, occupational therapists, practitioners

of complementary medicine, etc) need to manage their own business and still focus on patient care.
most of them manage both clinic and home visits without administrative support.

Causes of the problem

Why things get messy?

Managing a lot of patients

Therapists manage a lot of patients,

each with unique treatments, progress, and needs.

Where did I save that note?

Treatment records are often scattered across the

therapist's device or a (real) notebook, causing confusion

and missed details.

Managing tools, not patients

Payment processes are a mess

Payment tracking lacks organization, and many therapists do not offer credit card payment options.

This leads to unprofessional care,

financial losses, disorder and inefficiency.

Market research

To understand this world, I explored time management apps,

patient management systems and other medical apps.

To understand this world, I explored time management apps, patient management systems and other

medical apps.

What I took from the research?

Organized patient profile

To prevent information overload, I’ll create a profile for each patient which includes information in the following hierarchy: contact information, session documentation, payment and upcoming session.

Quick access to key actions

To make it easier for the therapist to perform key actions, I’ll add a

floating action button.

Stay on top of schedules

To help the therapist plan their schedules better, I’ll add a feature that shows whether a patient has confirmed or canceled their appointment.

Personalized notifications

I will send personalized notifications to help the therapist stay organized with

their patients and treatments. these notifications ensure therapists never missimportant updates.

and treatments. these notifications ensure therapists never miss important updates.

User research

I interviewed nine therapists from different fields to

understand their needs.

Most manage 20 to 50 patients across clinics and home visits, all without administrative support.

What I took from the research?

Automatic reminders

To save therapists time and effort of sending reminders manually, I’ll enable automatic reminders that can be scheduled and customized based on their preferences.

Simplifying treatment series tracking

Therapists often work with prepaid treatment series. I’ll add a feature to show how many sessions are left, keeping them on track

Designed for therapists on the go

Most existing systems are built for desktop use, but independent therapists are constantly on the move and need tools that work effortlessly on their mobile devices.

Designed for solo practitioners

Most systems are made for multi-therapist clinics, making them

complex and expensive for solo therapists.
